| Competition Statement |
| Having chatted to a few team managers it seems that club secretaries may not have pass on the following information: When entering ocean competitions this year via the MIS system - a competitor will not appear for addition to a specific event unless they have the correct qualification recorded on the system. Please see email attached for each event contested. Phil Rees has been asking clubs to check the MIS for several months and if qualifications are missing then Phil needs to be contacted with information as to when, where and name of examiner etc. Any examinations needed for competition will have to be completed a minimum of three weeks before the competition eg Senior and Youth Champs 3/4 August - last exams 13/14 July. This gives a few days for the MIS to be updated (providing your trainers get the paperwork sent off promptly!) and managers will then be able to complete the entry pack and submit 2 weeks before competition. The applies to Nippers, Youth, Seniors & Masters. If you have competitors who are 16 after 13/14 July but before 3/4 August please contact me independently. Rankings: All competitors must have the correct qualification on the date of the ranking. If the exam is not recorded on the MIS 48 hours prior to the event a photocopy of the exam sheet needs to be produced. Hope this clears up a few issues. Andrea Pennell |

This project in partnership with the ICAT Aerospace Department from Cardiff & Vale College, now offers SLSA Wales and its members, a stunning capability that is not available anyway else in the surf lifesaving world. The entire Beach Lifeguard Manual is now available online for free, with substantial benefits being: Right up-to-date underpinning knowledge The immediate ability to change published knowledge Access by candidates anyway with web access Candidates can progress through the manual at their own pace and at times suitable to themselves First class photographic images supported with unique animation Over 200 interactive questions and answers giving candidates instant feedback on their progress SLSA Wales would also like to acknowledge and thank the RNLI for their financial support in making this project viable, as well as CAVC and Welsh Government through the KTP grant (See College press release in Public Document area). |

| Postal Mailing |
| Some two years ago, it was recorded that SLSA Wales would eventually move to paperless communication. With the launch of our new website last year and the imminent launch of our e-learning system, we are now in a position to do our little bit for the environment and sustainability by stopping the monthly hard copies mailing. This months mailing will be the last in this format and all future correspondence and communication will be through email and our website (www.slsawales.org.uk). The NARS Beach Lifeguard manual is no longer in use and all learning and teaching materials will be able to be printed through our e-learning site. The last twelve months have seen SLSA Wales take huge steps forward as an organisation and we believe, when completed, the next twelve months will see us be world leaders in the use of e-learning in surf lifesaving. |

The FPOS award includes training on the following: Enhanced Patient Assessment Enhanced Automated External Defibrillation Enhanced Airway Management Medical Emergencies Trauma Related Emergencies Public access Defibrillator funding is available via grants and we would encourage those clubs taking up the FPOS training (which is free) to provide a locations at their local beach where the equipment could be used – at a minimum during the beach training session and possibly outside of that period Any club members interested in this training should contact the Technical Commission Regional Tutor via their club Trainer/Assessor(s) |

| Award Status |
| We are happy to report that the individual members log-in area now has an addition which shows you your current awards. This is another major step forward provided by your Board of Management and it is important requirement that members check their awards before next season. The summer of 2013 will see year two of the on-line entry system introduced. This will mean two things for on-line entries: 1.The computer will check eligibility of competitor by membership 2. The computer will check eligibility of competitor by qualification One, was introduced this year and initial feedback has been very positive from clubs and Championship Referees. Due to SLSA Wales being run entirely by volunteers and with a number of changes of personal in the Technical Commission in recent years, we feel it is essential that ALL members check their award status in the coming months. Any errors or omissions need to be corrected, which will mean certificates or claim forms presented as evidence before the MIS can be updated. Documents can be scanned and emailed or hard copies sent in the post. Any queries, please contact: Phil Rees 7 Dol Afon Porth Rhondda CF39 0DD A poster advertising this is also available in the Public Notice documents download area. |
